A large standing figure printed in color, an original chromolithograph poster made from three sheets joined together, about 162 by 68 cm overall. The poster was issued by C. Burckhardt's Nachf. of Weissenburg, in the period between 1889 and 1906, and a series number, given as 179, is printed at the lower edge.
The man is shown full length and life size, facing the viewer with a rifle held across his body. He has a full beard and wears a broad-brimmed slouch hat with a band, a dark jacket, light trousers and heavy black shoes, with a yellow leather bandolier of cartridges slung across his chest. He stands on a rocky patch of ground against the plain paper, with no background scenery, so the printed sheet works as a single bold figure.
Large costume and type figures of this kind were made as classroom wall charts and display pieces, and the lithographic color here is laid in broad flat areas with shaded drapery of the coat and trousers.
