A soldier of the Haitian light infantry, a hand-colored lithograph from the French satirical series Types Militaires, c.1862. The caption reads "Haiti, Infanterie Légère, 6e Tenue," and the lower left credit reads "Dess. et lith. par Draner," with the printer's imprint "Imp. Lemercier" at the lower margin. Draner was the pseudonym of Jules Renard, and the old description names Daziaro as the publisher.

The figure is drawn full length in the foreground, in an exaggerated caricature style. He wears a shako with a tall red plume, a green band and a chin strap, a white cross-belt, white gloves, yellow-striped trousers, and boots, and carries a sword at his side and a closed red parasol in one hand. In the background a hut stands among palms, with two other soldiers in different dress at the left and right edges. Color is applied over the lithographic tone in flat washes.

Types Militaires was a French series of satirical prints of the armies of many nations, aimed at a European public. Like others in the set it works through exaggeration, and it belongs to the period's French view of foreign troops.
