An original antique engraving, colored by hand, captioned "LIEUT. GENL. LORD LINEDOCK." with a second line "LATE SIR THOS. GRAHAM." The caption spells the title as engraved; the usual spelling is Lynedoch. He rides a gray horse stepping toward the left and points ahead with his right hand. He wears a black bicorne with a red and white plume, a scarlet coat with dark facings, gold epaulettes and gold lace, white breeches and black boots, with a sheathed saber at his side. The saddle cloth is green edged in yellow and bears a crown. In the background at the left mounted men with sabers clash beside a cannon, and at the right a line of infantry fires amid smoke, with a riderless horse galloping in front and a distant building at the far right.

No engraver's or artist's name is lettered on this plate. The publication line reads "London Published by Richd. Evans, Whites Row, Spitalfields, 1816." At the lower right is the page reference "Page 425". Sir Thomas Graham served under Wellington in the Peninsula and was created Lord Lynedoch in 1814.

The plate was issued for The History of the Wars occasioned by the French Revolution by William Nicholson, LL.D., printed in London for Thomas Kelly of 17 Paternoster Row. Its title page promises biographical sketches of the public characters of Europe, with an account of the Congress of Vienna, the escape from Elba, Waterloo and the exile to Saint Helena. The plates carry their own engraved publication line naming Richard Evans of Whites Row, Spitalfields, London.

The battle scene behind the rider gives this portrait plenty of movement for a military collection.

Several larger brown marks. The publication line sits on the bottom edge of the sheet and the lower part of its letters is trimmed, though it remains legible.
