About uniforms & regiments
Uniform prints were made for officers, collectors and the public alike. The great series of the 1800s, from The Military Costume of Turkey (1818) to the Imperial Guard plates after Horace Vernet (1843) and the Dutch army plates of Van de Weyer, record every regiment's coat, facings, plume and weapon with care.
The collection includes Napoleon's grenadiers, chasseurs, lancers and mamelukes, Ottoman janissaries and spahis, the Swiss Guard of the Vatican, Austrian, Swedish, Belgian and Spanish cavalry, and the soldiers of Japan, China, India and Persia, alongside portraits of commanders.

Questions about uniforms & regiments
Are the uniform prints hand coloured?
Most are. The 19th-century series were coloured by hand after printing, often by teams of colourists working to a pattern plate, which is why the colours vary slightly from copy to copy.
Can I find a particular regiment?
Use the search with the regiment's name or its type, such as hussar, grenadier or dragoon. If you are looking for something specific that is not listed, ask us: more stock arrives every week.
